WeChat, the Chinese mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent, has finally arrived for desktop Windows users in the beginning of this year. Now it has been updated with video calls support.
WeChat is a very important free messaging app for Chinese users, and not only for them. Of course, in other markets, Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype are the top dogs, but WeChat still has plenty of users on iOS, Android, BlackBerry and more recently, on Mac and Windows, as well.
Now the app has been updated with a bunch of new important features that are being rolled out to Windows users, including owners of the latest Windows version, as well. Here are the new features that have been made available:
- Talk with your friends, family or those closest to you with free video calls
- Download and use all your favorite stickers on your PC, including a wide variety of animated emoticons
- Multi-task with multiple chat windows open at the same time
- View the message history of all the official accounts you follow
So, as we can see, this is indeed a pretty serious update as it brings video calls to Windows users, stickers and multiple chat windows. However, you should know that this app is different from the app that is available on the Windows Store.
That one currently works for Windows Phone users only, but maybe Tencent plans to make it an universal app in the near future, who knows. Anyway, to make use of these recent new features, go ahead and download the latest version from the official website.
