Ring doorbells are a great way to monitor your front door and see who is coming and going. You can also use the two-way talk feature to have conversations with those who might be ringing the doorbell. There are many different Ring doorbells, but the Ring Pro 2 and the Ring 4 seem to be the most popular, so you might be wondering the differences between the two.

You might be wondering exactly what these differences mean. You might also be curious as to if they actually matter. We will go over the differences more in this article so you know which one is better for you by the time you’re done reading.

The Power Source

The Ring Pro 2 is hardwired into power. This means the wires that come with the Ring Pro 2 are connected to your household wiring. You don’t have to worry about plugs or taking the battery and recharging it every few months.

The Ring 4 is battery powered or it can be hardwired into your home. Unfortunately, many people have reported issues with the doorbell when it’s hardwired. You might have to rely on the battery as a backup if this happens.

Hardwired doorbells are better for a few reasons though:

  • No more worrying about the battery dying and missing someone at the doorYou don’t have to take the battery out and recharge it every few months Hardwired devices usually have fewer concerns when it comes to range and interference

Another key difference between the doorbells is the video resolution.

Video Resolution

Video resolution is important when it comes to your doorbell camera because you want to be able to effectively see who is around your home. The Ring Pro 2 definitely wins in this category because it has a 50% higher resolution.

Besides giving you a better view, you can also easily see clearer when you zoom in on the video or picture. Along with a different video resolution, the Ring Pro 2 uses a 1:1 square aspect ratio while the Ring 4 uses the traditional 16:9 ratio.

Many people find that the square ratio is much better for a few reasons:

  • You can see the person in front of the doorbell from head to toeAllows you to get a more accurate picture of the personThe square view gives you a clear view of the sides and behind the person

Unlike Ring 4, the Ring 2 Pro also uses HDR video. This means it can balance darkness and light better giving you a clearer image even during the night and on very bright mornings.

Differences in motion detection are also what make these two doorbells very different from one another.

Motion Detection

If you have a Ring Doorbell 3, the Ring 4 won’t be an upgrade when it comes to motion detection since they have the same qualities including adjustable motion zones and thermal detection

It does not have 3D radar. It can also detect movement that is only 5 feet to 15 feet away. So, people or objects that are too close or too far away will not be seen by the camera on the doorbell.

The Ring Pro 2 has a few extra motion detection features not seen in the Ring 4 including bird’s eye view 3D radar.

Both these features ensure you always know when people are on your property. The 3D radar is also customizable, sensitive, and accurate. It can also detect movement from up to 30 feet away.

When a person or even animal crosses within the detection zones you have set up, the app can also give you an overhead satellite view map. While these are the main differences between the two doorbells, there are a few others worth noting.

Other Differences

The Ring Pro 2 also has an auto-reply feature. It can answer the door for you and even take messages. It’s basically like having an answering machine. Alexa can also talk to the person at the door with some preset questions and answers.

Some other differences to keep in mind:

Final Thoughts

The Ring Pro 2 has better video resolution, more motion detection features, and better hardwiring technology. Even though it’s more expensive, many people prefer the Ring Pro 2 over the Ring 4.
