When picking the perfect Ring doorbell for your home, there are a few features to consider for the Ring Pro and Elite. Both are great options with similar features, but they also maintain significant differences.
Power Options
Ring Pro
One difference between the two devices is the way they are powered. The Ring Pro’s only source of power is with an existing doorbell kit. Not that 16-24 VAC, DC transformers are not supported with the Ring Doorbell Pro.
Ring Elite
The Ring Elite runs through the Power over Ethernet (PoE). The significant difference between power over ethernet and WiFi is the reliability of the connection. With power over ethernet, the doorbell is provided the power to run along with the internet necessary for it to function.
With power over ethernet, you will never have to be concerned about charging your battery or if the internet is connecting to your doorbell. Power over ethernet is a more reliable option than other WiFi options.
Design
The Ring Pro has a rectangular shape with 4.5 x 1.85 x 0.80 inch dimensions.
The look of your doorbell is a significant part of making it part of your home. Many doorbells lack the style fit for homes, but with the Ring Elite flush mount and sleek look, the design alone is an upgrade.
This doorbell fits into most standard junction boxes and does not require additional work to your home for its placement.
The Ring Elite has a thicker shape with 4.70 x 2.75 x 0.43 inch dimensions when mounted.
Compatible Networks
The Ring Pro connects with your home WiFi network. It also supports a 2.4 or 5 GHz 802.11 b/g/n connection. If your device struggles with its connection, the Ring Chime Pro can be used as a WiFi extender and is a great device to add to your Ring Doorbell.
The Ring Elite works best with power over ethernet, but also connects with WiFi that maintains similar specifications. The WiFi option is available if you are unable to connect the power over ethernet into your router. You are then able to use the injector to supply power and WiFi connection to transmit data.
Installation
Installation for both devices can be tricky.
The Ring Pro is hardwired and is compatible with the majority of mechanical or digital doorbell kits so long as they use transformers between 16 and 24 volts AC. DC transformers or any transformers below 16 volts AC are not supported with the Ring Pro.
This device is installable by someone with technical knowledge, but there is always the option for professional installation.
The installation for the Ring Elite is more complicated than the Ring Pro . This device installs on standard junction boxes with a flush-mounted finish. Typically, installation for the Ring Elite required professional support.
Similarities
Field of View
