A couple of Windows 10 users were treated to a mysterious “Photos Add-on app” on their PC’s. None of the users said that they had downloaded the app and in fact, the app is not to be seen anywhere else.

Apparently, the app was pushed along with the Patch Tuesday for some of the Windows 10 users.

That being said the app is an add-on for the Microsoft Photos app and is 141MB in size. Furthermore, the app was listed under Apps and Features and was dubbed as “Photos.DLC Main.”

That apart, the automatic downloading of software is not expected to go down well with Windows 10 users. Some of the users have reported that the app was deployed as an update in the Windows Store on 1 of October.

ZDNet has confirmed that the app works with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and was actually released 18 months ago. The intent of the app is to manage the add-ons and also the DLC in settings. In other words, the app will help in controlling the new Story Remix features.

Microsoft would have been better off if they had issued a statement or an explanation about the new feature. Yes, I know it’s not much of a deal but it’s not right to push stuff without the consent from the users.

Microsoft has been at the receiving end for automatically pushing updates, especially on the Windows 10. In fact, most of the Windows users (including me) crib about the manner in which Windows update end up gobbling up our monthly internet data quota. Last year, a businesswoman sued Microsoft for forced upgrade methods and they had to cough up $10,000 after losing the lawsuit.

In the meanwhile, I do agree with the importance of updating to the latest Windows build but I just hope Microsoft will stop resorting to forcible means to do that.
