There are a couple of different ways to find out if your AirPods are connected. If it is an apple device when the AirPods are connected, a screen will pop up to show the charge of the AirPods.

The AirPods charging case has a little light that flashes when it is ready to connect when it is connected, and it even changes colors when the AirPods need to be charged.
My AirPods Are Connect, but There’s No Sound
Sometimes when your AirPods say they are connected but no sound comes out of your headphones. It can be very frustrating. Problems like this come with a lot of Bluetooth devices. There are a few different reasons your AirPods might have this issue.
Reset Bluetooth
Resetting the Bluetooth setting on your phone or device is going to be the easiest way to try to get your AirPods to reconnect, and hopefully, the sound will be back. The steps to resetting Bluetooth are pretty easy.
To reset your Bluetooth, you will open your setting on your device (AirPods Connect to Apple Devices best). Once the settings are open there should be a tab for Bluetooth, and you will want to click on it to open the tab.
In this tab, it should show your AirPods and whether or not they are connected. Now you will want to turn the Bluetooth off, wait about 30 seconds to a minute and then turn them back on.
If this doesn’t work, continue on to a different method or contact Apple support.
Reset AirPods
The next option is to reset your AirPods if resetting the Bluetooth didn’t work. Resetting AirPods is pretty easy.
Start with making sure both headphones are in the charging case and close the lid of the case, wait 30 seconds before moving on.
Next, go into your Bluetooth setting and click on your AirPods, tap on it and tap “forget device”. This will make your device forget the connection with your AirPods.
Once the Airpods are “forgotten,” open the lid to your AirPods and hold the little white circle button on the case. You want to hold the button down for about 15 seconds, and the light on the front of the case will flash amber and then white.
Reconnect your Airpods to your device and see if the sound is back. If the problem is not fixed, contact Apple Support.
Reset Device
A simple option to potentially fix the issue would be to reset your whole device altogether. To reset your whole device you will either hold the power button or down volume button if the device is an iPhone. For computers, you can hit the power button or open the setting.
Clean AirPods
Dirty AirPods can also cause issues; keeping them clean can be a very beneficial option to hopefully avoid any.
Some important things to remember when cleaning your AirPods are don’t run them under water, don’t get any liquids in the openings on the headphones, and always use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
You will want to clean both the headphones and the case. If either is dirty, they might not charge, which can also cause issues with connectivity.
Remove visible debris from the AirPods. If necessary, you can use isopropyl alcohol that was dampened on a soft cloth.
In Conclusion
Bluetooth headphones are very convenient for listening to music or podcasts since you won’t get caught in the cord. But sometimes they might not connect properly, which can be slightly annoying.
Trying to reset your device, AirPods or Bluetooth may help with the sound issue as well as cleaning your AirPods. If none of this works, contact Apple support.
