We all want to feel as safe as possible inside our homes. Ring home security systems allow you to do just that. The rechargeable Ring Keypad can be taken into any room, allowing you to change settings as you move around in the home. However, the Ring Keypad can often change color to give you notifications. The blinking green light, for example, has puzzled many people.

Your Ring Keypad will flash a green light while it is charging. When the battery is full, this will turn to a solid green color, or the light may turn off. Luckily, the Ring Keypad has a long battery life and won’t need to be charged for months at a time.

Below, we will discuss how to find out when your Ring Keypad needs to be charged, when the battery is low, and what some of the other lights mean. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know!

Why is the Green Battery Light Flashing on My Ring Keypad?

Ring has created affordable security systems that work well in every home. The Ring Keypad will allow you to take your keypad with you and make changes wherever you are.

There is no need to go to one stationary keypad and set the alarm there. Just got it to bed and forgot to set the alarm? If you have the keypad next to you, there’s no need to worry. You can make changes right from where you are.

Just like with other Ring products, Ring Keypads use colored indication lights. These lights tell you when it is connected, when the battery starts to run low, and more.

A flashing green light indicates that the device is charging. This is a helpful indication, letting you know that the keypad is, in fact, charging, and there are no connectivity issues.

Once the battery finishes charging, the light will turn to a solid green color. Or, with some upgrades, the light will switch off completely.

The Ring Keypad battery lasts six to nine months with a single charge. This, of course, depends on several factors, such as whether you have battery saver mode turned on.

What Do the Different Indication Lights on a Ring Keypad Mean?

Ring Keypads feature different colors that give different indications. However, not every color makes its meaning obvious immediately. For this reason, many people wonder what the different indicator lights mean.

  • When the keypad has no light, there is at least 31% battery power remaining. Charging at this time is not necessary.A solid yellow light indicates the battery is running low, with 10% to 30% remaining. A solid red light indicates the battery is extremely low, with less than 10% power remaining. If you see a red light, charge your keypad as soon as possible. A blinking green light indicates that the keypad is charging.

While Ring Keypads already have impressive battery lifespans, you can extend it further by turning on battery saver mode.

What is the Ring Keypad Battery Saver Mode?

The Ring Keypad features “battery saver mode,” which helps your keypad’s battery last as long as possible. There are currently two different battery saver modes you can choose from:

  • Power Save OnPower Save Off

“Power Save On” battery saver mode will allow the buttons to light up when you press them. For example, the number lights will only light up when you press the corresponding button.

With “Power Save Off,” the mode buttons will light up whenever motion is detected. If it is dark out and you pick up the keypad, you will immediately see all the number lights illuminate. This, of course, uses much more power than “Power Save On” mode.

How to Turn on Power Save Mode

Depending on how important it is for you that the lights turn on when motion is detected, you may want to turn on Power Save Mode. Without Power Save, your Ring Keypad will still last around five months.

While this is still a pretty impressive battery life, turning Power Save on can help your keypad last six to nine months before it needs to be charged again.

To turn on power save, follow the steps below:

  • Open the Ring app on your smartphone. In the upper left corner of the menu, find “Devices.” Select “Keypad.” In this menu, you will see “Power Save Mode.” Toggle Power Save Mode on or off.

Turning power save on will deactivate the keypad motion sensors.

In Conclusion

Your Ring Keypad gives you many options and allows you to control your home security system from anywhere in your house. If you notice the battery light flashing green, it simply means the device is charging.

Once the keypad finishes charging, the light may turn solid green or shut off completely. Your Ring Keypad will also let you know when the battery is starting to run low by giving you a yellow light or when the battery is really low with a red light.
