This problem usually occurs after a power outage or after you replaced your router. Without further ado, here’s what you can do to fix this issue and connect the extender.
How to fix Wi-Fi extender password issues
1. Install the latest firmware update
Your router’s manufacturer regularly releases updates to improve performance and add new features. Running outdated firmware may trigger many technical issues, including password validation problems. Updating your network devices is one of the quickest ways to fix this issue.
So, go to your router manufacturer’s website using your computer, go to Firmware Update and select the ‘Update router’ option.
Keep in mind that during the update process, you should not interrupt the update nor open a new tab. Don’t do anything on your computer until your router has restarted. This means that the update was successfully installed. Check if your Wi-Fi extender accepts the password now.
Note: The exact steps to follow are different from one router model to another. For more information on how to update your router, check your router’s user guide.
2. Reset your device
Plug your extender into the socket near your Wi-Fi box. Perform a factory reset by holding the reset button with the help of a paperclip, toothpick or another sharp object. The light on the extender should change. Wait until the light turns green.
Now, go to your list of Wi-Fi networks and locate your network. If nothing shows up, refresh your list. Enter your password to connect to the network. Wait for a couple of minutes and then connect your devices to your Wi-Fi network. Move your extender to a different place — the signal should be stable now.
There you go, one of these two solutions should help you fix your Wi-Fi extender password issue. If nothing worked, try changing your Wi-Fi password.
