Windows 10 Build 15031 Issues Install Fails No Internet Access And More

Microsoft recently released the new build 15031 for Windows 10 Preview. The new build brings a couple of new interesting features, and marks the beginning of the release branch of the Creators Update. All Insiders on the Fast Ring are eligible for installing this build.

Microsoft has already warned Insiders about the known issues in this build in its build announcement post. However, it seems ‘Known Issues’ are not the only problems bothering Insiders who installed Windows 10 build 15031.

Update fails to install

As usual, the first problem we’ve bumped into is the installation fail. However, it isn’t as frequently reported, as it were in some previously-released builds, there are a few users that have been complaining about this problem lately. Here’s what one of them says on the Microsoft forums:

Unfortunately, no one had a proper solution for this issue, so in case you’ve encountered it, we recommend common workarounds, like disabling your antivirus, or running the WUReset script.

Stuck at “Downloading updates 99%” for a day. I’m at a loss for what to do. Tried the update troubleshooter, no dice. Makes no progress, sits there for hours. Any ideas?

Unable to connect via Remote Desktop Gateway

One user has reported that he’s been unable to connect to RD servers via Remote Desktop Gateway:

Another Windows Insider suggested a simple restart, but it proved inefficient.

Hello, since the upgrade to 15031 I am unable to connect via Remote Desktop Gateway to RD Servers. Is there a workaround for this problem.

Internet connection issues

Internet connection problems occur in Windows 10 builds from time to time, and it seems build 15031 is not an exception. Here’s what one user said on the forums:

For this problem, we suggest trying some of the solutions from our article about internet issues in Windows 10. If you have no luck with our workarounds, perhaps the best solution is to simply wait for another build.

Build 15031 installed fine, but my wifi stick (Netgear WNA1100, current driver) failed, reporting a possible driver error. I could see the router and enter a password, but could not establish a connection. Connecting via Ethernet failed too. I could access properties for both kinds of connection, but could not change them; the cursor would simply spin forever. The usual remedies like ipconfig had no effect. Speaking of spinning forever, shutting down or restarting invariably hung up on the green screen. Power switch still worked, though. I’ve reverted for now, but I can update again if anyone has suggestions.

Audio issues

And finally, a few users have complained about audio issues in Windows 10 build 15031. Here’s what one of them says:

Just like it was the case with the internet issues, the only thing we can do about this problem is recommend you our article about audio issues in Windows 10.

I just installed 15031 and audio did not work so had to install High Def Audio drivers to get sound. Question is why don’t VIA Win 10 drivers which have just been downloaded work???

That’s about it. As you can see, Windows 10 build is not as troublesome as some of its predecessors, which is expected since the release of the Creators Update is near. As the Creators Update is now in the release branch, we should expect more bug fixes in the future builds, so even if you failed to address some of the issues caused by build 15031, the workaround is likely to come soon.
