Microsoft rolled out a new Windows 10 Insider build, adding a series of new features and bug fixes to the table.

We already published a summary of the key changes brought by Windows 10 build 17704 — you can check it out here. In this post, we’re going to focus on another matter, namely the bugs and issues reported by Insiders after they installed the latest Windows 10 build.

Windows 10 build 17704 reported bugs

  1. Install fails

Many users reported they couldn’t install the latest Insider build as their computers reverted to the previous operating system.

If you’re experiencing the same problem, here are a few quick workarounds to use:

Running Build 17692.1000 – downloaded Build 17704.1000 (twice) – installations started and system rebooted at about the 15% point – selected Windows setup from boot menu and immediately got message about reverting to previous operating system (Build 17692.1000) two times.

  • Temporarily disable your antivirus software during the build download and install phase. Once you’ve installed the new build, enable your antivirus protection.
  • Delete the files in the SoftwareDistribution\Downloads folder and then delete the $Windows.~BT folder as well.
  • Run the Windows Update troubleshooter.
  1. Hyper-V VM won’t work

If you can’t run Hyper-V VM after installing build 17704, you’re not the only one. Here’s how one user describes the problem:

  1. Extended desktop issues

Build 17704: cannot run a Hyper-V VM. I have Hyper-V enabled and now I can’t run my vm. It says something about “underlying layer” or something like that.

Some Insiders can’t use extended desktop on their computers. The second monitor displays only a dark screen.

This brings us to the end of our list. As you can see, if you already managed to download and install Windows 10 build 17704, you should not experience any major issues afterwards. At least, that’s the theory. If you encountered other issues after installing Windows 10 build 17704 on your machine, let us know in the comments below.
