On Friday, Microsoft released a new update for Windows 10 Preview and Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview. The update isn’t a new build, but a regular patch dubbed KB3176925. It brings a few improvements to the system, changes the build number to 14393.3, and is available to all Insiders on the Fast ring.
This is the first ‘regular’ update for Windows 10 Preview in a while, as Microsoft only released new builds before. Of course, it contains no new features, but improves a few aspects of the system, including some previously present keyboard input issues, a problem with Windows Update on on systems with Connected Standby, and more.
The fact that Microsoft released a new patch in form of a update, instead of releasing a brand new build tells us that the current Windows 10 Preview build 14393 is almost surely the Anniversary Update RTM. Since Microsoft won’t release any new features for the upcoming major update for Windows 10, it only needs Windows Insiders to test stability of the latest builds now, which doesn’t require a new build, but only occasional patches.
Here’s the complete changelog for PCs (there’s still no changelog for Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview):
- We have fixed an issue where keyboard input on some Windows tablet devices would not rotate to landscape normally.
- We have fixed an issue that results in Windows Updates being delayed on systems with Connected Standby.
- We have fixed a problem with text input with Korean Input Method Editor (IME) in some Store apps.
- We fixed an issue causing Store apps to stop launching due to a licensing issue.
- We have fixed an issue with apps that synchronize using DDE for inter-process communication.
As Windows Insiders are now focused on testing the Anniversary Update‘s stability, and since we still have more than a week until the official release, it won’t be a surprise if Microsoft release one or two similar updates this week.
