The latest Windows 10 Mobile build made many Lumia owners happy thanks to the fixes it contained. Among the most important as the Language and Speech pack problem that denied users from properly downloading and installing language packs on their devices.

Lumia owners have complained about this issue on Microsoft’s Support page for months:

The fix rolled out by Microsoft should allow users to download any Language and Speech packs without errors. So far, this seems to be the case judging by user feedback:

I have a Lumia 640 XL running buil 14332 and still no chance to download speech recognition languages for enabling Cortana.  I even tried to go back to Windows 8.1 but the Windows Revoery Tool does not recognize my device no matter what I do.   Any recomendations?

Hopefully someone can shed some light –  I see that this is an old thread, just purchased my Lumia 640XL LTE and upon starting it updated to windows 10 Version:1511 OS version10.0.14295.1000

For the past x4 days now I cannot download English (Australia) speech!!!!! everything is as it should ie. region: Australia

Language: Australia

keyboard: Australia

Why doesn’t Microsoft answer any of these post? what is the purpose of this community forum:? I cannot believe I just bought this phone, i’m thinking of taking it back and getting the Android Samsung S7.

This fix will finally allow impacted Lumia owners to download and install the necessary language packs to enabling Cortana. Your personal assistant can now work with a greater variety of languages following the April update. If you ever need a translator, you can now have your own personal translator thanks to her.

Just updated to build 14342 (insider fast on 950XL) & guess what – it works 🙂 Finally have English (US) based as default speech language!
