While Microsoft’s Windows 10 Cloud Edition aims to provide an alternative to Google’s Chrome OS, the low-cost version of Windows lacks some of the powerful desktop apps including the Office Suite.

It now seems the Redmond giant will be forcing you to make another compromise by inserting links to Microsoft’s Office Suite on the Start Menu of Windows 10 Cloud build 16170, now appearing in the latest build of Windows 10 Redstone 3 Cloud Edition.

However, as of this writing, the links do not appear to be fully functional. It is safe to assume, though, that the links will start working over the coming weeks as the Redstone 3 release draws closer.

The Office apps will be accessible directly from the Windows Store thanks to Project Centennial, a desktop app converter in Windows 10 that lets developers of classic Win32 apps bring their items to the Windows Store more easily.

With the surfacing of the Windows Store links to Office Suite, Microsoft seems to silently acknowledge that UWP no longer meets all the demands of users. It is exciting, nevertheless, how the software giant’s next move paves the way for its future.
