Microsoft recently started working on a dark theme for the File Explorer in Windows 10, and this is an important step that the tech giant took. Windows 10 supports both light and dark themes all over its modern elements.

A dark theme for File Explorer was found back in April

The new feature targeting File Explorer was found last month, but Microsoft did this quietly without releasing any official statements. When first reports claimed that there’s a dark theme for File Explorer it was pretty clear that the feature was still a work in progress.

The update is not available by default

Build 17661 of the Skip Ahead, and Fast ring for Windows Insiders found out that the update is not available by default and you have to enable it manually.

A Twitter user posted the news, and as you can see in the screenshot below, all the elements are black now.

For the moment, the feature is still in the works. As Microsoft remains tight-lipped about the function and has not offered any confirmation yet.
