Insiders, get ready to test a new Windows 10 Spring Creators Update build in the coming days. Microsoft is now testing Windows 10 build 17134 and could soon roll it out to Fast Ring Insiders. As a quick reminder, the company delayed the release of Windows 10 v1803 due a severe bug that was discovered shortly before launch.
As we already suggested, Microsoft will soon push a new build version to test the hotfix for the respective bug. The company definitely wants to avoid unpleasant episodes where the final OS version brings more bugs than improvements.
The mysterious Windows 10 SCU RTM build
So, is Windows 10 build 17134 the new RTM build? That’s a pretty tough question but we’ll try to answer it. We’ll take into account all the possibilities we can think of, but keep in mind that the final decision belongs to Microsoft and unexpected events may still occur.
First of all, Microsoft already sent version 17133 to OEMs. Hardware manufacturers are testing the new OS version in order to identify and patch any specific issues before the official release. Rolling out a new RTM build means that OEMs will need to go through these tests again. This takes time and money, and we don’t think OEMs will be too eager to repeat the tests.
Microsoft could also roll out this new Redstone 4 build soon in order to address the blocking issues and have Insiders test the fix. Then, the company could simply integrate it in the 17133 build and keep the RTM number.
If Microsoft indeed changes the RTM build number, and some OEMs don’t have the time to run all the necessary tests using the new OS, then many users will probably encounter a bevy of bugs. This is not breaking news, as Windows 10 is infamous for its plethora of issues after release.
If the Redmond giant decides to further delay the Windows 10 version 1803 release in order to buy more time to fix these bugs, this could mean that the new OS will be available in a few weeks’ time — or maybe a few months’ time in the worst case scenario. Of course, this is a highly hypothetical situation since Microsoft usually releases a new Windows 10 OS version in April. However, when unexpected events do occur, it’s worth mentioning this possibility as well.
Once again, nobody knows what’s going on at the Windows Insider Headquarters, so we’ll just have to wait and see. However, the most plausible scenario is the one where Insiders test the upcoming hotfix for a few days and then Microsoft rolls out the SCU to the general public in April.
