The January 14 Patch Tuesday cumulative updates are finally out, and many users were eager to see if Microsoft’s latest security vulnerabilities will get fixed or not.

Windows 10 v1507 gets patched for vulnerabilities

Yes, you heard it right, Windows 10 version 1507 is getting some improvements, especially on the security side. More specifically, the new cumulative updates will improve security when storing and managing files.

Also, there are similar improvements for using input devices like mice, keyboards, or styluses. Here are the quality improvements for Windows 10 v1507:

  • Security updates to the Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Media, Windows Cryptography, Windows Virtualization, Windows Storage and Filesystems, and Windows Server.

Maybe the most important part is Windows Cryptography, which directly leads to the fact that Microsoft is patching the important exploit that affected all Windows versions.

Also, there are some known issues in this update:

  • Certain operations, such as rename, that you perform on files or folders that are on a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) may fail with the error, “STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL (0xC00000A5)”.

As a workaround, Microsoft is recommending to perform the operation with administrative rights or perform the operation from a node that doesn’t have CSV ownership.
