The Microsoft Windows OS comes with a variety of tools that make it a very family-oriented tool.
For example, users of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 can create family Microsoft Accounts with child sub-accounts. They can then limit and monitor their activity via the parental controls attached to them.
However, this will change in the future.
No more Windows 7 Family Safety alerts
In an official statement of Microsoft forums, it was announced that Windows 7 devices with Windows Live Family Safety installed, or Windows 8.1 with Family Safety will have the optional online services discontinued.
No explanation as to why this change will be implemented was given. However, those that use parental restrictions to their children’s sub-accounts are most likely not happy.
Your device will continue to enforce the limits you set, but soon, you will no longer receive emails of your kids’ device and internet usage from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, or be able to see usage and set limits at account.microsoft.com for these older devices. Setting limits and viewing usage will still be available in the User Accounts & Family Safety control panel on your device.
If you never used the feature or checked that you have no parental restrictions applied to your account, it means that this change will not affect you at all.
However, Windows 7 users should uninstall the Windows Live Family Safety app. This is simply because soon it will be just taking up space.
