Microsoft warns about the known issues that may occur when applying this update. The network interface controller (NIC) could stop working on some configurations. The exact problematic configurations are currently unknown, but aparently is related to a missing file, oem.inf.

If you encounter this issue, try the suggested workaround and manually locate the network device.

  • Open Device Manager and locate devmgmt.msc

A second solution is to Scan for Hardware Changes from the Action menu on the Device Manager panel. This will automatically rediscover the NIC and install drivers.
