This error usually comes up when your Windows could not establish a connection with the internet. It could be due to corrupt files on your Windows computer. Windows OS comes with its own troubleshooting tool. But after running the tool, you get a message:

Windows Could Not Automatically Detect This Network’s Proxy Settings.

Well, this doesn’t mean that there is nothing you could do! There are ways which could help you fix Windows proxy settings.

Method 1: Reboot Your Router & PC

Before you start with all the troubleshooting techniques, it must be a great idea to restart your Router and your computer to resolve network proxy settings error. This might solve the issues in a few seconds. As the error could be due to misconfigured settings on one computer.

If you have tried it and the issue still remained unresolved, then proceed further.

2. Evaluate Proxy Settings

You need to check Proxy Settings, for that you need to get to the Settings app on Windows. Press Windows & I together to launch Settings. Navigate to Network & Internet.

Locate Proxy from the left side of the pane.

Here you will get to proxy server options list. You need to ensure that Use a Proxy Server slider is disabled. Also, you need to make sure Automatically detect settings is turned on.

If you use proxy settings for your work or education, then you may need to check with the administrator to ensure you have right proxy info.

Once done, try to establish a connection with your network again. If the issue is not resolved, disable Automatically detect settings in proxy options and try again.

3. Network Adapter Troubleshooter

To troubleshoot network adapter, right-click the network connection icon and select Troubleshoot. It runs Internet Connections troubleshooter, it will display “Windows could not detect proxy settings” issue. However, you can use a different network troubleshooter which could help.

Step 1: Launch Settings app, by pressing Windows and I key together.

Step 2: Click Update & Security.

Step 3: From the left side pane, click Troubleshoot.

Step 4: Click Network Adapter & then click Run the troubleshooter.

Step 5: You need to select the network adapter to diagnose.

Note: If you don’t know what to choose the last option.

6. Use Command Prompt To Reset Network Configuration

You can always use Command Prompt for troubleshooting network issues.  A few commands typed and executed to resolve the issue. Type Cmd in the search bar beside the Start menu and right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.

Type these network commands,

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

This will refresh network connections.

7. Scan For Malware

Malware can mess up your network proxy settings which could stop you from going online. If you get “Windows could not detect this network’s proxy settings” error every time you reboot, you might have malware on your computer. You can get Advanced System Protector for Windows. The tool can detect malware, viruses running on your system. Once you have installed the software, you can scan your system for infected files and malware. Upon detection, you can delete them all to get rid of the malware.

8. Restore Point

System Restore feature in Windows allows you to return to a previous point where your computer worked perfectly fine. In case you have started facing trouble just now, then you can go back to the point when your system work.

Step 1: Type Control Panel in the search bar and press Enter.

Step 2: You need to select Small icons or Large icons for Category at the top right corner.

Step 3: Click System.

Step 4: Now choose System Protection from the left side of the panel.

Step 5: Click System Properties, click System Restore. Once you click System Restore, you will get Restore system file and settings.

Step 6: Now follow the on-screen instructions and click Finish.

Once done, your PC will restart and create a restore point.

Note: Upon using a restore point, programs and drivers you installed since creating that restore point will be removed. Click Scan for affected programs on restore point to check the effect it will have. System Restore point will not impact on any of your personal information.

Reset Your Network Settings

Once you have done with all the Network Proxy Settings error methods and reset your network settings. You need to reset network settings to stop the issue from blocking your connection.

You can reset the configuration, follow these steps:

Step 1: Press Windows and I to launch the Settings app.

Step 2: Go to Network & Internet and then click Status.

Step 3: Navigate and click Network Reset.

This will delete network information from your PC, now you have to reconnect to saved networks. If you are comfortable doing this, click Reset now. Your computer will reset and then restart your computer.
