Microsoft is looking to make it’s software solutions available to all and sundry, leaving behind the Windows-only approach some of its software have. One of its latest effort to do so is by making its security and management software – Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection available for Mac. Also, because it is now going on the Mac, Microsoft is dropping the Windows Defender ATP naming for just ATP in order to remove the Windows exclusive tag.

The ATP software comes with a Microsoft 365 package when you subscribe so it just makes it easier for companies on the service using both Windows and macOS computers. Making it easy to provide unified security and management tools across all systems. This is not the first time Microsoft is taking its service to other platforms. It did the same with Microsoft Office back in the day with Office apps now available on both Android and iPad. Also, it recently took the Windows Application Guard Extension to Chrome and Firefox browsers but only available for Windows 10 and Pro versions on 1803 or later at the moment with support for other platforms coming soon.

The service is only available for limited preview as at the time of writing and Microsoft 365 users can sign up for it. More so, no timeline has been divulged either by Apple or Microsoft on when the macOS version of the service will go mainstream. Nonetheless, you will be able to install it on either macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra or the latest macOS Mojave offering the usual set of services it does on Windows PCs.
