Microsoft continues its journey for eliminating passwords, and the company just took another step ahead in its quest. Windows Hello receives an update that allows secure authentication via FIDO2 security keys. These security keys will bring a lot of benefits for enhanced protection, and they’ll also offer increased mobility as well. Take a look at their benefits below because they’re quite significant.

Here’s what these security keys can do for you

The physical security keys will allow users to carry their credential with themselves all over the place to authenticate to a system running Windows 10 that joined Azure AD. From now on, users will be able to go to any device that’s belonging to their organization, and they will have the ability to log in without the need of entering usernames and passwords any more. They won’t even need to set up Windows Hello before logging in. These security keys use high-security public-key cryptography in order to offer users string authentication.

The security key itself can be protected

The security keys can also be protected with a layer like fingerprint that will be integrated into them. They can also have a PIN that should be entered when signing in to Windows. The security keys are set to be launched in various forms including NFC enabled smart cards and USB security keys.

Join the waitlist to try out the security keys

Microsoft also offers the opportunity for curious users to try out FIDO security keys for Windows Hello themselves. For being eligible, you have to head over Microsoft’s official website and provide a few information that the company requires. The data involves your name, contact info, company, your company’s industry, and more details which you can see for yourself on the website.
