Microsoft is currently working on a stripped down version of Windows called Windows Lite that will be used to power dual-screen devices.
Recent reports suggest that the company is planning to use Composable Shell (C-Shell) to develop the upcoming version of the operating system.
As Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 is using a new Windows Core OS (WCOS), so the company is planning to run the latest version of OS on top of WCOS.
Windows Lite Design Predictions
As far as the user interface is concerned, it will be the same to that of the of Windows 10. However, as Windows Lite will be designed for the Chromebooks and dual-screen devicesMicrosoft plans to do some tweaks in the current UI as well.
Furthermore, the upcoming version of Windows will initially support web apps and Universal Windows Platform Apps (UWA). While the legacy Windows software might be supported later on.
Windows Lite Release Date
Moreover, Microsoft has not announced a release date for the new Windows Lite OS. It is worth mentioning that Windows Lite is still a codename and the company has not yet decided about its final name.
It can be completely different as compared to what we are currently assuming it to be.
Most of the users are expecting the release in early May this year at the annual Build developer conference that is going to take place in Seattle.
Some speculations were being made in the tech industry that Windows Lite would be featuring some Windows 7 design elements.
But it is yet to be seen that what the actual version will look like until the tech giant plans to release it to the users.
