As an effort to expand the Xbox Wireless ecosystem, Microsoft announced that that its new Xbox Wireless Controller would support Samsung Gear VR. As a reminder, Xbox Wireless Controller already supports Windows 10, and of course Xbox One.
The first VR game that is going to support the Xbox Wireless Controller is, of course, Minecraft: Gear VR Edition. All those who want to already experience playing the VR version of Minecraft with the Xbox Wireless Controller should attend MINECON this weekend, where Microsoft will promote the game.
Microsoft will start with Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, but will also eventually add some more VR-enabled games, like Herobound, Spirit Champion, Omega Agent, and End Space. The company even promised to bring Xbox Wireless Support to all controller-supported Gear VR games, which is amazing.
With Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, players can get right inside the world of Minecraft and build, explore and battle mobs – all with a fresh perspective. Following a game update in October to supported Android devices*, your new Xbox Wireless Controller can be paired to work directly through your Gear VR device for use with Minecraft: Gear VR Edition. You’re first step to playing Minecraft: Gear VR Edition with your Xbox Wireless Controller is to get the latest update for your controller. Then, download the October update to the game in the Oculus App on your favorite Gear VR device, connect your controller with Bluetooth and play.
We still don’t know when all of this will officially happen, but as soon as Microsoft releases an official word, we’re going to let you know about it.
Once your favorite game gets Wireless Controller support, you’ll have to update your controller drivers to make it work flawlessly.
