You Can Now Prevent Autocorrect In Windows 10 Mobile

Autocorrect is a double-edged sword: It will save you time by allowing you insert words into your message/text without typing them but can also cause major damage by inserting the wrong word, especially if you’ve already sent a message.

Microsoft is aware of that, so it is introducing some improvements to the autocorrect feature in Windows 10 Mobile with the latest Preview build. Users now have the ability to prevent autocorrect if they see that tings might go the wrong way.

From now on, besides a regular autocorrection, a second word — the word you initially typed — is going to appear in the autocorrect box. By tapping on that word, it will be inserted into the text and further autocorrection will be prevented. According to Microsoft, the system will learn from the words you type and give you more accurate suggestions over time.

The ability to disable auto-correct is not the only improvement Microsoft is bringing to Windows 10 Mobile’s typing experience with build 14946. Users are also now able to remove any word from a local autocorrection dictionary, for even better results.

“On your phone, if you see that an autocorrection is going to happen (i.e. the first candidate is bolded) and it’s not what you intended, you will now see what you originally typed as the second candidate. Tapping on that candidate will prevent the autocorrection, and the system will learn your vocabulary and get smarter over time.”

For now, only Insiders running at least Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build 14946 are able to use the improved autocorrect feature. However, we believe that Microsoft will make this option available to everyone with the next major update for Windows 10/Windows 10 Mobile.
