Do you remember life before Windows Explorer? If you still do, then we’ve got an interesting piece of news for you: Microsoft just made the original File Manager code from Windows 3.x/NT open source and you can even run it on Windows 10. How cool is that?

The File Manager code from Windows 3.x/NT was first launched in 1990. The fact that Microsoft updated it to run on Windows 10 confirms once again that many old Windows features can easily run on the latest Windows 10 version.

At the same time, this piece of news triggered a lot of good memories for the people who used the first versions of File Manager:

If Windows 3.x/NT doesn’t ring any bell, you should at least download the original File Manager source code just for fun to get a glimpse at what computing looked like many years ago. Indeed, people can still learn a lot by reading over these old codebases.

I remember it clearly, as I was running Windows 3.11 when I was 8 years old.
