You Can Now Set Windows Terminal As The Default Terminal Application In Windows 11

Apart from releasing a new Terminal Preview 1.12, It comes packed with an array of features, including bug fixes, windows restoration, and full transparency in Windows 11.

Users can now set the newly released Terminal Preview 1.12 as the default terminal.Microsoft is quick to proclaim it as one of the biggest releases proudly.The terminal comes with a bunch of bug fixes.

This is huge as it allows users to go back to the same Tabs they had opened when they shut down their devices in their last session. This is, however, only exclusive to Windows 11 users.

Default terminal

Whereas you can set the tool as the default terminal emulator, you need to either operate from the Windows Insider Program Dev Channel or be running Windows 11 to enjoy this feature.

Users can also enjoy full transparency instead of the usual acrylic.

Other additions

Profile matching has also been added. You will now have all your customizations under one profile whenever you launch. The feature is currently only available on Windows Terminal Preview but will soon be availed to Windows Terminal in future.

Bug fixes

Bug fixes are essential in any release, and some that have been addressed include;

Text printed in your buffer with the keyboard is now selectable.
Visual Studio Developer Command Prompt (VS2017+) and Visual Studio Developer PowerShell (VS2019.2+) profiles will now be automatically generated.
The elevated terminal windows will now show a shield icon to the left of the tabs.
The “adjustIndistinguishableColors” profile setting can be adjusted to the foreground color to make it more visible, based on the background color.
Users now have the option to select and interact with subtrees of panes.
SplitState now accepts directional modifiers
Alt+Space command now opens the system menu.
The touch keyboard should now invokes properly when tapping inside the console window.
When the viewport is scrolled the mouse coordinates are now functioning properly.
Selecting new tabs focuses on the tab immediately when running multiple actions.
You don’t have to zoom out to navigate pane focus.
